MASTERING Theories of Change

DESCRIPTION

While creating program logics has been well-established in evaluation for decades, constructing effective theories of change has remained challenging for evaluators.

This workshop provides a solution by integrating proven managerial and social change theories from other academic disciplines to bridge the gap between program logic and theory of change development. The workshop will provide participants with a comprehensive approach to developing robust theories of change for evaluations, addressing this critical gap we see in current practice.

WORKSHOP STRUCTURE:

1. People: Explore the psychological aspects of change at individual, group, and societal levels. Learn how to incorporate these insights into your evaluation framework.

2. Power: Analyse power dynamics and their impact on change processes. Discover theoretical frameworks for systematically considering power at various levels of intervention.

3. Process: Enrich your program logic development by integrating psychological states, timing, power dynamics, and the breadth and depth of influence.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Develop more comprehensive and effective theories of change for your interventions and evaluations. Practice applying interdisciplinary theories of change to strengthen your evaluation practice

Feedback from Brisbane AES Workshop 2023

"The workshop was rich with new content on organisational theories of change and systems thinking...which I had not previously applied to my evaluation work."

"I particularly appreciated the "three deep dives: people, power, and process," which I viewed as mechanisms for triggering behaviour change both collectively and individually."

"Since the workshop, I have incorporated some of the content into my practice but their is plenty more to incorporate into future

evaluations I design."

"Kara and Brian were very generous with their responses during the workshop and made themselves available for brief chats after, as I navigated the content with a focus on culturally responsive and equity-centered evaluation. The resources they gave all workshop participants is a testament to their generosity. “
